IMPORTANT: For Those With INACTIVE ACCOUNTS

Post by Steven Cochran »

Update: I am now working full time away from home. I will check for "first posts" to authorize them during lunch break, and when I arrive home in the evening.

Apparently the new capcha program I had to install to keep the pornbots out of the forum is causing an intermitant problem with some users. I just went through the entire member list checking anyone that has zero post-counts, and have activated the following inactive users:

robdab
Bootnock
Chris Hawkinson
ravege Michael Kopacz
tacton1966

These users should be able to log in and post now.

If anyone tries to register and/or log in and has problems, contact Tony, or if you use the AIM service, contact me under 'historianforhire'.

Again, my apologies for the inconvenience.

Steve:

Do you want to just delete the Chris Hawkinson account? I somehow managed to say I was under 13 when I signed up, so I just signed up using this account.

Thanks!
Chris

Well, it's active now, but if you want to keep this one instead of the Chris one, I can nuke it.

The move by the phpBB development team to the 3.0 series broke the anti-spam measures written for the 2.x series. Since the upcoming 3.0.5 release is totally revamping the way user registration is handled, I've implemented the following measures instead of installing another captcha that will soon be unusable:

New user registrations must be approved by administrator.
New user first posts are held in queue to be reviewed by administrator, before unlimited posting is allowed.
User IPs will be compared to open source "blacklists" of known spammers, and blacklisted IPs will be blocked from registering.

If you are a newly-registered user, please allow time for one of the busy administrators (Tony or myself) to approve your registration. Also remember that all first posts will be held for moderation before unlimited posting privs are granted.

Thank you all for your consideration in this matter.

I want to add to Steven's bulletin.

If you are signing up, and can't -- send email to me at tullyfleet - gmail to let me know you are "real"
and into fleets. ;) Can then activate manually.

I am able to answer & have posted Threads in the past, but recently wasn't able to post a new Thread.

Let me look into that for you.

EDIT: I can't see anything amiss under the hood. If it happens again, please let me know the exact error message, and what you did to make it show.
Thanks!

Hi Timothy,
Let me see if I can help figure this out.

It sounds like you already have the bottom box checked "no". Am I correct?

Another place that this problem could crop up is here:

Check to see if both checkboxes are cleared on the line that says "Someone quotes you in a post". You could also just clear all the checkboxes in this section, so that you won't be notified if you bookmark a thread or forum.

Let me know if this helps!
